Norway’s eldest Gospel Choir (2009 – 40 year anniversary)

Gospel Bergen is a choir devoted to the music art of Gospel as stated in our name. The music art mainly has its roots in black church music from the southern states of America. In Norway it’s known through artists like Andea Crouch and Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir. But far more important then our music style is that we praise God with our music. We use our time and God-given abilities to praise Him for who He is and what He does in our lives.

Gospel Bergen was started by Rune Larsen in 1969, this makes us the oldest gospel choir in Norway. Rune Larsen decided that Bergen needed a gospel choir and started under the YMCA foundation. Since that year the work has continued, without pause, till this day. If you know your math you would quickly figure out that we have a 40-year anniversary in 2009!! This of course will be celebrated with different concerts and arrangements. Stay updated and check our webpage for info regarding our anniversary!
Dates will be announced as soon as possible.

The choir is still associated with YMCA, and we rehearse at their premises in downtown Bergen. Today the choir consists of just over 20 singers which is our preferred level. We mainly receive new members when someone else quits. Since our choir follows the school semester we usually have auditions early autumn and/or in January.
